“"Pray to God, I'm like Jesus back with the safety off..."” - Rising Son
— Thomas A. Anderson (Deadtime E.P)
Rising Son first emerged on the UK Hip-Hop scene in 1996 when it was still very much a niche genre with a small following in central London. He would do open mic events with his fellow rapper friends and peers. He wouldn't become known until 1999 when he formed the group P.G.M alongside fellow rappers '10 Faces' and 'The Phantom', and producer 'DJ Phusion'. The group made themselves well known on the underground circuit in London, with Rising spearheading the group and later introducing Doc Brown, Reveal and Tony D into the fold. The group disbanded in 2000.
Rising went in pursuit of a more' 'commercial' sound as he decided to make real his dream of turning his artistic talent into an income generating career. Rising started self producing, and working with producers from the US to give him the sound he wanted, which he felt that the UK was too focused on 'sounding UK' rather than just creating good music. He didn't feel like he fit in in the almost anti-American 'UK Hip-Hop' scene and chose to withdraw from it amid accusations of 'selling out' etc. Rising did not care, nor miss the scene that had now apparently shunned him, as he was now operating in a more industry based circle, and working towards a major label record deal.
In the early 2000's Rising Son moved to the West Country, UK and started afresh. He began working with a local group helping them to build their profile, and eventually ended up performing at Glastonbury Festival with the group. Shortly after this, Rising became a father and began to focus harder on securing a major deal. He caught wind of a competition being held by Sony Records in conjunction with US Rap Legend Nas to win a spot on the official remix of his track 'Thief's Theme' which would also feature on his 'Streets Disciple' double album (UK Edition) via Sony UK. The competition had over 5000 entrants, but Rising Son came out victorious. Hand picked by Nas himself, Rising got the call to appear alongside Nas on the official track 'Thief's Theme Remix'.
Winning this competition catapulted Rising Son's name back into the fold and he used this momentum to release two CD mixtape albums "Hoodstarr - The Gift Tape' and "Hoodstarr 2 - Blood, Sweat & Beers'. However, the projects just didn't receive the attention Rising had longed for and Rising began to lose hope. By this time Rising had become a father two times over and wanted to be a good dad to his children. This saw a decline in Rising's music production until it eventually came to a stop in 2010, "being a better father to my kids than the one I had is the most important thing over ALL", and this became the end of the artist Rising Son, and the beginning of the father he felt that his children deserved.
Fast forward to 2020, Covid, Lockdown and mass boredom! Rising began to flex his pen game to see if he still had it! He submitted an entry into a 16 Bar Rap Challenge on the RonCam YouTube Channel, to which he was bombarded with messages from friends and supporters alike urging him to continue and to "come back to the game". Slowly, Rising began to rediscover his confidence and write more often until eventually he decided to make the move. "Everything is wack, so everything has to die. If I come back I'm killing everyone and everything and we're starting afresh". The next thing anybody knew, in January 2023 they got hit with the single and video for the track 'Deadtime', and the promise of a full 'Deadtime EP' later on in the year. Rising, as of this moment has aligned himself with 'Wordlife Studios/Recordings', has already completed recording the Deadtime EP and is already writing the follow up. So, we shall end on the old cliche.... watch this space!
